FETISH (SEXUAL FETISH):
a form of sexual desire in which gratification is linked by an abnormal degree to a particular object, item of clothing, parts of the body, or specific situations.  Fetish is the term for a perversion from what is considered to be normal sexual behavior.  In the BDSM world, the term fetish is used a bit differently and does not take on a negative context as an actual disorder until the sexual perversion brings about negative effects.  Many people choose to embrace their perversion rather than attempting treatment to rid themselves of it.  If the perversion does not cause a person harm or distress, and if it has no detrimental effects, then embracing the perversion can sometimes bring about feelings of well-being and enjoyment.  This may be the reason why BDSM, in general, is often referred to as fetish: fetish play, fetish pornography, fetish photography, fetish clothing, a fetish club, a fetish event, a fetish party, etc.  In the BDSM world, when a perversion does indeed bring about negative aspects, it is sometimes simply referred to as a paraphilia, a medical term for a fetish.  In other words, in the BDSM world, usually the term fetish is reserved for a healthy sexual desire while the term paraphilia is reserved for an unhealthy sexual disorder.

They are sold under the name space whips, light whips, and LED whips.  Many of the fiber optic floggers are actually made of polymer optical fibers rather than glass optical fibers, which gives them more durability.  Though more durable than glass, even polymer optical fibers cannot be swung hard at a target without sometimes breaking.  The sting from these devices is compared to that of a horsehair flogger.  Fiber optic floggers or whips are very difficult to wield due to their light weight and they are equally as difficult to control.

FIDDLE or SHREW'S FIDDLE:
a type of restraint originally made of wood, similar to a stock or portable pillory, in which the head and wrists can be bound in single file.  Its shape is much like that of a violin, from which it gets its name. Historically, the shrew's fiddle, also known as a "Halsgeige", was originally used in the medieval time period to punish and torture unruly or quarrelsome women.  Sometimes a small bell was attached to the end of the fiddle to let townspeople know that the troublesome woman was nearing.  Often a rope or chain was attached to the fiddle so that she could be led around streets by an aggrieved husband in public view.  She was then often birched or flogged whilst in the restraint.  The shrew's fiddle was intended to shame and embarrass the victim as well as cause discomfort with the positioning of her restrained arms.  Some fiddles were constructed as to have two people bound to each other, facing each other, but in such a way that they could not touch each other.  There was also a metal version that was commonly used on slaves, with combined shackles that bound the arms and neck in the same fashion as the wood version.  Currently metal versions of the shrew's fiddle are the most common replicas sold for BDSM use.

FIGGING:
the practice of placing a piece of carved ginger root into the anus or vagina, for the purposes of causing a burning sensation that some claim intensifies an orgasm.  Its effects are considered chemical play.  The practiced was said to be first used as a form of punishment for unruly slaves in ancient Greece.  It became popular in the Victorian era and was used in conjunction with caning to discipline disobedient, troublesome women.  When a person clinches their muscles in the anus, the stinging from the ginger root can intensify, hence why figging is often served in conjunction with impact play.

FLORENTINE or FLORENTINE FLOGGING:
sometimes referred to as the double weave; a flogging technique that involves a person wielding two floggers, one in each hand, and creating a figure-eight-type pattern, one hand on top of the other, interchanging positions.  The purpose of the Florentine is to give a steady, constant flagellation.  The two popular types of Florentine flogging are the four-point and six-point, the number of steps before the pattern repeats.  The name is derived from an ancient two sword fighting technique believed to originate in Florence, Italy, however the actual motion of Florentine flogging is more like a poi fire performance technique.  It is believed that this method of flogging originated in fetish night clubs in the mid 90's, originally founded in part or in whole by Entropy, who modeled the style after moves in kung fu.  It has since taken on a life of its own, now with many different versions and styles of the two-handed flogging technique being practiced world-wide, primarily in the United States, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom.

See related ANIMALISM.
