UGOL'S LAW:
a concept attributed to Harry Ugol, holding that for any given kink, there is always someone, somewhere who shares it. It is intended to help individuals feel less isolated and lessen shame surrounding their interests.



ULTRAVIOLET WAND:
an erroneous name for a violet wand. There is a widespread misconception that violet wands produce ultraviolet light, which leads people to call them ultraviolet wands. In reality, though violet wands often glow a violet color, they do not produce any measurable amount of ultraviolet light.

UNICORN:
a bisexual person, usually but not always female, who is willing to join a preexisting couple (typically a male and female) for a sexual relationship, ongoing triad, or marriage. The name derives from the mythical creature because it was thought that finding someone willing to enter a couple's dynamic and love both partners equally is extremely difficult, if not impossible. Within the BDSM and polyamory communities, the term has often been used in a scoffing or derogatory manner toward couples searching for a unicorn, or toward individuals seeking to become one, grounded in the belief that true three-way equal love or strict triad exclusivity cannot actually exist. Despite this skepticism, successful long-term triads do exist. In recent years, the term is also used more broadly to describe any person joining a couple for a threesome or sexual encounter.

UNIFORM PLAY:
any form of role-play that involves a uniform. It typically centers on a BDSM power exchange where one person takes on the role of an authority figure with a high level of control over another, such as a police officer or military official. Historically, some individuals in the BDSM community have worn World War II era Nazi uniforms at fetish events in contexts relating to uniform play or race play. This included people of color who wore World War II Nazi or Russian attire for the power exchange and shock value of the uniform. In recent times, this practice has been increasingly discouraged due to the negative social acceptance of anything related to hate groups.

URETHRAL SOUND:
a medical instrument inserted into the urethral opening of the penis to locate obstructions or gradually dilate the canal. In BDSM and erotic play, this device is inserted into the meatus for sexual stimulation or power exchange. This practice is considered edgeplay.
